Is there a hierarchy of bodily fluids?
The current project, with the working title „Mary‘s Dress,“ is critically dedicated to the topic of menstrual hygiene and the social and cultural constructions associated with it: A Wedding Dress, made from a lifetime‘s supply of menstrual hygiene items: 10,000 pads. The work simultaneously addresses the worldwide practice of taxing these items as luxury goods, as well as the consequences of „period poverty“ for numerous menstruating individuals. The work also functions as an ironic visualization of the waste caused by these products.
The over-aestheticization as a wedding dress is meant to irritate. For many, menstruation is still associated with disgust and shame. Advertising continues to support this: Our generation only knows blue „blood“ on white pads.
In addition, „Mary‘s Dress“ points to a discrepancy: that between the „female“ ideal of purity and innocence on the one hand, which finds its visual equivalent in the white wedding dress as a symbol of the „most beautiful day“ in the life of every woman* propagated by the patriarchy - and the imputed inadequacy and impurity of the menstruating woman* on the other. The planned performance with the dress in public space represents an aesthetic confrontation with the social norms and taboos that often lead to discrimination and restrictions for menstruating persons.
Initially, dealing with bodily fluids may appear mundane due to their commonality. Yet, it unveils insights into societal equality and spatial distribution. Breaking the menstruation taboo is a global, ongoing social process in which art and culture can play a central role.

Welche Emotionen lösen Objekte, Flüssigkeiten und Materialien aus, je nachdem in welchem Kontext sie betrachtet und womit sie kombiniert werden? Diese Frage stellt die Arbeit Shameless Bags. Ebenso die Frage, von welchen Materialien wir ständig umgeben sind, ohne ihnen jedoch Beachtung zu schenken. Einlagen für Erwachsene, ob für Inkontinenz, nach Geburten oder Operationen, sind Produkte des Alltags, jedoch häufig mit Scham verbunden. Darauf angewiesen zu sein ist etwas, worüber kaum gesprochen wird oder nicht gesprochenwerden kann. Deshalb führt Inkontinenz häufig zu sozialer Isolation, da sich viele Betroffene nicht trauen, Hilfe in Anspruch zu nehmen. Die Handtaschen entstanden als künstlerische Beteiligung für den Kick off Event von MOB Industries (Mode ohne Barrieren) im Museumsquartier Wien.

What emotions are triggered by objects, liquids and materials, depending on the context in which they are viewed and what they are combined with? This is the question posed by the work Shameless Bags. It also asks which materials we are constantly surrounded by without paying them any attention. Padding for adults, whether for incontinence, after childbirth or operations, are everyday products, but are often associated with shame. Being dependent on them is something that is rarely talked about or cannot be talked about. This is why incontinence often leads to social isolation, as many sufferers do not dare to seek help. The handbags were created as an artistic participation for the kick-off event of MOB Industries (Fashion without Barriers) in the Museumsquartier Vienna.
